Sheriff James “Jim” Kramer
Jim’s GOAL is to be the “people’s” sheriff and to continue serving and protecting the citizens of Gray County.
Law Enforcement Experience:
Jim graduated Kansas Law Enforcement Academy in 1978 with Academic Achievement Award. He worked for Dodge City Police Dept and Ford County Sheriff Dept for 3 years. Then moved to Graham County to become Undersheriff. Jim moved back to Cimarron in 1988 and became Chief of Police in 1989 before becoming Gray County Sheriff in October 2006. In January 2007, the City of Cimarron Police Dept combined into the Gray Co Sheriff Dept. He currently serves as Chairman of the Juvenile Detention Center Board.
Jim’s father, Marvin “Squirt” Kramer, served as Sheriff for 14 years, followed by Jim’s brother Bill Kramer as Sheriff for 21 years. Jim has been married to wife Jean for 43 years. They have two children – Christy who is a registered nurse, and husband Michael May; and Cory who is a police officer for Dodge City. He also has 5 grandchildren who are his pride and joy.
